1. Exploring A Contemporary Style With Sarah Sham

In the pilot episode, we delve into the contemporary visual language of a show flat crafted by Essajees Atelier in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. Overgrown with vibrant hues and handcrafted furniture, like the cast-concrete table in the kitchen, principal designer Sarah Sham has deftly blended creativity and craftsmanship. “The vision behind the project was to create a space that exudes originality and distinctiveness,” the principal designer explains, “ensuring each element was custom-made rather than mass-produced.” Located close to the Arabian Sea, the palette of swirling blues, and greens to create a strong connection to nature is ostensible throughout the space. A standout feature is the entrance foyer with its undulating fluidity akin to the ocean; its blue wallpaper with wave patterns sets the tone for the entire residence.

2. Diving Into Eclecticism With Akshita Mehra

In the second episode, we explore a verdant Bengaluru sanctuary titled ‘Songs of Sunset,’ the personal residence of Akshita Mehra, Creative Director at Studio Goya. Classic with a contemporary flair, this home is teeming with nostalgia and a propensity for layering textures. Decked with tropical wallpapers and ethereal brass accents, Mehra’s home can be best characterized as tying in with the ‘Eclectic’ style movement. The best takeaway here is most definitely the library, formerly an enclosed room tucked away before Studio Goya broke down the walls and connected it to the common staircase. Presently, the library invites visitors to relax, read and soak up some sunlight.

3. Reimagining Tropical Modernism With Kavya Sheth and Shruthy Sanghvi

As a serene tribute to ‘Tropical Modernism,’ the third episode of ‘Style Stories’ is dedicated to a Zen-like haven in Bengaluru composed by Studio Ruh. Brought to life by principal designers Kavya Sheth and Shruthy Sanghvi—in synergy with Kavya Narayana and Vasundhara Shiva Kumar—this bohemian vision of luxury living is punctuated intermittently with tiny dabs of modernism.
Statement lights, Indian antiques and a Biblical Last Supper-inspired dining table form the nourishing heart of the home. Overgrown with vegetation and a standing Buddha sculpture that takes centre stage, the ‘Sun Room,’ adjacent to this dining space is our favourite spot in this home.
4. Embracing The Modern Eclectic With Pooja Bihani

Awash in natural light and the drama of marble artistry, the fourth video in ‘Style Stories’ depicts a Kolkata abode designed by Pooja Bihani from Spaces & Design. Titled ‘Earle’s Court,’ this multigenerational home is ‘Modern Eclectic’ in its style vocabulary, with hand-carved ash wood panels, terracotta colour infusions, and stucco wall paint being the predominant elements at play. The lavish marble cladding in the washrooms is a standout feature. The panda marble for the parents’ bathroom creates intriguing patterns on the walls and floor, highlighting the play of light and texture.
