Amidst the growing apprehensions over whether or not it would take place, Salone Del Mobile announced the appointment of leading Italian architect Stefano Boeri as curator of a special 2021 Event under the Salone banner. Assisted by a team of young internationally renowned architects and professionals, Boeri is tasked with planning the new concept and exhibition modalities for the event, which will be held from 5th to 10th September 2021 at Fiera Milano, Rho, and a number of city venues. The architect and urban planner is best known for his groundbreaking Vertical Forest concept.

“We are working on what will be an unmissable event in all respects, open to both professionals and the general public,” said Stefano Boeri. “The 2021 edition is confirmation, yet again, of Milan’s centrality as the global capital of creative innovation and social generosity.”

This 2021 event is slated to be dramatically different from previous years, in more ways than one. For the first time ever, the general consumer public will have access to the fairgrounds for the entire duration of the event. Apart from the chance to admire the latest products and collections from brands, they will also have the unique opportunity to purchase goods showcased by the companies at exclusive prices at the Rho fairgrounds. Part of the profits from this will go to a charitable cause. The event, the name of which is yet to be unveiled, will be a one-off occasion on the international furnishing and design scene thanks to an exhibition that will allow the companies to present the very best products that have emerged over the last year and a half, in a highly emotional and scenographic setting. In addition to the physical event, a new Salone del Mobile.Milano digital platform is slated to launch in June.

Claudio Feltrin, President of FederlegnoArredo, says “The September event will be unique and innovative and, thanks to the experience and sensitivity of the architect Stefano Boeri and the young curators working alongside him, will showcase the best of the skills and innovative powers of our companies to a national and international public. The event will provide an opportunity for visitors to explore and discover more about the current evolution in the world of furnishing and contemporary living, affirming Milan’s place as the undisputed capital of the design economy. A symbol of the recovery, around which all those who give of their best will gather and honour what the Salone del Mobile.Milano has always represented.”
