Interior Designer, Kavita Singh with daughter Nandini, unveiled a new eponymous Interior Store at Bandra–Kavita Singh Interiors at Bandra West in Mumbai recently. Kavita Singh has been a well known Bombay designer as well as an art curator for over three decades. Along with her daughter Nandini, they have launch their first design and art store, ‘Kavita Singh Interiors’
Kavita Singh’s style has always been amalgamation of traditional design whether Indian or European along with Modern Classic’s. A perfect example is the styling of the look below where antique lamps are placed alongside an ultra modern Philippe Starck Ghost Chair. Her aesthetic sense actually reminds us of Kelly Wearstler’s to a certain extent. Heavily curated art and artefact pieces to meet a certain colour or texture palette. Allowing the space to be interesting yet not looking cluttered. The pieces coexist without taking away from each other.
As Kavita says,“ Our clientele will be those who appreciate Indian culture and aesthetics, along with a cosmopolitan outlook on life.”
The store has a simple grey kota stone flooring and grey distressed walls. Wooden rafters rail road the white ceilings. An interesting staircase makes for a lovely connection between the first and ground floor. Made in wrought Iron and wood. Wrapped aroung in thick white rope. The rope also finds symbolism in the store logo representing two generations of woman intertwined together.
On display at the store is furniture designed by Kavita Singh herself as well as special items that have been sourced individually by the mother daughter duo. In character, the store also showcases a lot of art, from Pitchwais to Kalighat paintings to art works by Uma Kilachand. It also includes some photography as well and various objects d’art in silver and bronze. Special pieces of furniture and home décor by the exclusive house Lotus Arts de Vivre from Thailand find a special mention. There are also a large range of smaller home décor items such a lanterns, Venetian mirror photo frames, silver plated containers, silver plated thali dinner sets, an exclusive candle range and marble urlis and tea light containers.
