rockpaperscissors operates as a material lab, conducting experiments on a smaller scale to explore ideas and concepts. The lab delves intimately into materials such as plywood, paper, resin, concrete, glass, and cloth, investigating their physical properties, production processes, breaking points, geometrical logics, and potential for sustainability. Presently, the focus is on innovative projects with these materials.
In response to the waste generated by construction sites and wood workshops, rockpaperscissors undertakes upcycling experiments, transforming scrap wood and plywood into a collection of lamps and accessories. Utilizing small pieces of waste glued together and turned on the lathe, the resulting functional objects showcase sinuous patterns, celebrating the often-hidden cross-section anatomy of plywood. The project highlights the unique layers, deliberate assembly geometry, and wood turning processes that create distinct patterns on the curved shapes of the lamps.
