2023’s Most Hotly Anticipated Hotels Include A Luxury Lodge Within Reach Of Nepal’s ‘Forbidden Kingdom’ And More
2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the hospitality industry. Prominent hotel groups are all back in the saddle – operating in full swing and inaugurating properties that had been put on hold during the pandemic. Individualistic and rich in narrative, these experience-first offerings range from a luxury lodge sequestered in Nepal’s Lower Mustang area to a hotel housed in an ancient 15th century Roman structure. Here’s our roundup of some of the most hotly anticipated hotels and resorts set to launch in 2023 –
#1 Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection, Nepal
Shinta Mani Hotels’ first internationally flagged property outside Cambodia is set to open its doors on the 1st of March 2023. In partnership with Kathmandu based Sherpa Hospitality Group, they will launch the 29-suite property named Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection. The luxury resort promises an all-inclusive experience, with the guests’ journeys curated to provide a one-of-a-kind 360-degree, luxury experience in the Himalayas. It is located in Jomsom, in the Lower Mustang area which is a gateway to the Forbidden Kingdom in Upper Mustang. This surreal destination has dramatic landscapes; rich in both monasteries and highest snow-capped peaks.
Starchitect Bill Bensley brings his signature touch to Shinta Mani Mustang; the interiors reflect the rich tones of the surrounding landscape, and each of the expansive 29 suites (spanning 2,484 square feet), have been designed in the style of a traditional open-plan Tibetan home with floor to ceiling windows that offer majestic views of the Nilgiri mountain. “This is perhaps one of the most exciting projects we have ever had. I have never seen such wildly dramatic landscapes as the mountains and valleys of Mustang, and am thrilled that Shinta Mani can be the first to introduce this Forbidden Kingdom to international adventurers – and all the more so under the special wing of Bensley Collection,” says Bensley.
#2 Aman Niseko, Japan*
Aman is set to launch its fourth resort in Japan – an all-season retreat perched on the high slopes of Mt Moiwa, amidst the undiscovered gem of Hokkaido’s Niseko region. This 30 key property lies on a sweeping 187-hectare site, commanding spectacular forest and mountain vistas from every angle.
The resort has been designed by Kerry Hill Architects, also responsible for the design of Aman’s other Japan properties; Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and Aman Kyoto. Taking inspiration from Japan’s ryokan (traditional inn), Aman Niseko’s interiors include open fireplaces, private Furo bathtubs in each room, expansive terraces, and wooden accents that provide a sense of bringing nature within. Spaces are laid out in a masterful linear design that invites the outside in through floor to ceiling windows and doors.
Aman Niseko is set to be the first full spa and wellness resort in Japan, complete with personalized retreat programmes, fitness and mindfulness activities, and healthy cuisine options. “This all-season resort will be a haven of peacefulness immersed in the purest Japanese scenery with the renowned thoughtfulness of Japanese hospitality,” says Vladislav Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman.

#3 Six Senses Rome
Opening in early 2023, Six Senses Rome will be the brand’s first hotel in Italy, serving as a green oasis amid the bustle of Via del Corso. Occupying a prominent position within the UNESCO world heritage site of Rome’s historic center, it lies only a few steps away from iconic landmarks such as the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, which Six Senses Rome calls its home, is a historical building dating back as far as the 15th century.
Designed by architect Patricia Urquiola, the hotel blends the contemporary with the traditional in an effortless fashion. Traditional Cocciopesto plasterwork and locally sourced Travertine limestone has been used across the 96 guest rooms and suites. Airy interiors, sun-drenched terraces, and historic bay windows add to the Romanesque sensibility. In addition to this, the Six Senses Spa brings its trademark wellness formula to life through the tradition of ancient Roman bathing, amongst other offerings like biohacking and meditation rooms, saunas, and outdoor yoga decks. Six Senses Rome is accepting reservations for stays in early 2023.

It lies in close proximity to Sydney’s commercial, arts, and cultural hubs.
Soaring ceilings and elegant interiors serve as an homage to the original building, accompanied by muted tones, an abundance of natural light, and opulent detailing. A custom art installation titled ‘Meadow’ by Studio Drift will be showcased within the central atrium. The ground level of Capella Sydney will accommodate the food and beverage outlets, along with the meeting and conference rooms.
